The City of Johnson City Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Senior's Transportation Aide Coordinator. The employee performs responsible semiskilled work providing transportation, bus and van maintenance, technical and clerical tasks; provides bus transportation to and from the Center and community locations. Performs assigned tasks to assist with programs, special events and technology needs. Employee keeps weekly schedules of transportation runs. The employee also performs clerical work related to the transportation program. This position provides transportation to and from the center and coordinating locations. This work involves considerable direct contact with the public and is usually performed in accordance with specific instructions from the Senior Program Supervisor. Progress is reviewed for compliance with instructions. Cleans vehicles inside/out a minimum of once per week.
Essential Functions of Position:
- assists Center staff with set up and take down of tables and chairs for all center programs as needed;
- transports senior citizens and other groups to and from the senior center and other destinations;
- transports volunteers to/from service locations;
- transports participants to/from other cities for recreational and educational activities;
- takesrequired drivers training;
- drives vehicles in a safe and careful manner;
- develops comprehensive knowledge of Center vehicles;
- assistswith distribution of newsletters to community locations;
- runs errands as required;
- fuels vehicles;
- washes and vacuums vehicles at least once per week;
- cleans interior of vehicles at least once per week;
- conducts required safety inspections of all vehicles;
- assistswith phoning participants to confirm transportation appointments;
- helps participants with boarding and exiting vehicles;
- assistswith inventory of center equipment and materials;
- helps prepare monthly, weekly and daily transportation schedules, including weekly schedule for temporary driver(s);
- takesvehicles to motor transport for routine maintenance and repairs;
- collects donations daily, counts and records the amount received on the schedules, and turns in money at the reservations desk;
- maintains participant rosters in a neat and efficient manner;
- completes necessary transportation reports in a timely manner;
- works a flexible schedule with varied hours each week to provide evening and weekend transportation when required while maintaining a 40-hour per week work schedule;
- supervises Billiards Room to maintain cleanliness and address maintenance needs;
- assists with special events, which may include Senior Olympics, dances, meals, or Parks and Recreation community events;
- assists with technology needs for Center programs and troubleshoots problems when needed;
- assists with program needs to help cover vacations, sickness or vacancy in program staff;
- ensures vehicles are equipped with necessary supplies and safety equipment;

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of state driving rules and regulations; thorough knowledge of city streets and the location of appropriate buildings and centers; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to deal tactfully and courteously with senior citizens; patience in dealing with senior citizens; willingness to learn and perform assigned tasks. Ability to use a computer.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Graduation from high school or GED; or any equivalent combination of experiences in training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Possession of a Class C CDL with P endorsement driver's license issued by the state of Tennessee. CPR and First Aid certification. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
