Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position is crucial in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of specimen collection and processing.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.

+ Conduct decontamination procedures and update patient information as required.

+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

+ Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods, such as urine or fecal as required.

+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

+ Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

+ Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.

+ Package specimens for transport and store them according to the required temperature.

+ Place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes and accurately label them.

+ Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.

+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

+ Attend annual department trainings.

+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in phlebotomy, including blood draws and venipuncture.

+ Strong patient care skills.

+ Ability to perform tasks in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states.

+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 2 - 4 years of experience in a related field.

Work Environment

This role requires performing tasks in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Employees must adhere to established safety protocols and regulations. The position involves handling various medical equipment and following specific procedures to ensure specimen integrity. Professional attire is required while performing duties.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based in Kingsport, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.50/hr.
