Job Purpose Statement
This position is a key technical role responsible for ensuring consistently high availability of manufacturing equipment and robust support processes. The role requires strong focus on continuous improvement of production processes and maintenance.
Main Accountabilities
- Lead Maintenance professionals, to ensure ongoing development and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and maintenance of production equipment. Will be responsible for managing multiple priorities that include standard operations support and ownership of reliability projects.
- Achieve and maintain equipment availability metric of 85% to include all categories of equipment downtime, e.g., catastrophic failures, micro-stops, etc.
- Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts, and direct the negotiation of capital reliability projects.
- Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the maintenance and technical work performed in the department.
- Have a strong working knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and control systems, to include PLC’s.
- Investigate process deviations that occur on manufacturing floor using structured LEAN/SIGMA methods.
- Utilize root cause analysis to identify problem source.
- Lead and hold accountable a team of Maintenance Technicians and technical support staff, including the Maintenance Planner and assigns daily job duties.
- Maintains schedule compliance and priorities.
- Reviews production schedule and when equipment is not scheduled for production, changes over equipment to a new or different machine size.
- Ensure prompt repairs by responding to emergency breakdowns.
- Lead improvement projects aimed at equipment reliability, and maximized utilization by implementing and maintaining a highly effective preventive and predictive maintenance program
- Anticipate potential process-related problems, risks, and technical conflicts and develop necessary contingency plans that optimize business continuity
- Ensure work activities are conducted in strict accordance with safety guidelines and processing standards, such as FDA & current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and SOPs
- Coordinate and direct reliability projects, making detailed plans to accomplish tasks and directing the integration of technical activities
- Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
- Plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of production equipment.
Education
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, and at least 5 years of relevant experience in a batch processing environment, including mixing, filling and packaging required.
- Experience in semi-solids manufacturing preferred and demonstrated knowledge of cGMP manufacturing required.
- Six-Sigma training and project management experience is preferred
- Prefer knowledge of electro-mechanical principles and automated machine process control
- Ability to clearly present technical information and effectively communicate within all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to and lead project teams
- Clear thinker: simplifying strategy into specific actions with clear accountability, making decisions with speed and accuracy based on best available information and communicating priorities clearly and concisely
