Primary Function(s)

 

 

This position is responsible for performing engineering duties in planning, designing, fabricating/customizing, and maintaining machines/equipment.  A hands-on approach to installation, operation, and implementing kaizens on current equipment is required. Works with department leaders in a support function.  Troubleshoots equipment and offers repair/kaizen solutions on a daily basis.

 

Essential Job Duties

 

  • Investigation/countermeasure of machine problems.
  • Work with Production & Maintenance on problems, downtime issues, and improvement projects.
  • Document setup procedures, technical instructions, and PM instructions.
  • Troubleshoot machine problems, controls problems, and quality issues.
  • Understand, interpret, and modify programs machine drawings, electrical drawings.
  • Provides engineering services to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Performs programming for casting and related equipment.
  • Analyze process and equipment problems for long term solutions.
  • Continuous improvement of assigned area processes.
  • Assesses spare part problems and makes appropriate changes.
  • Prepares detailed equipment specifications.
  • Generates reports as required for process development or troubleshooting.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager
  • Perform 5S on designated areas.
  • Actively participates on Company Safety committee.
  • Supports continual improvement initiatives.
  • Complies with all TS requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical drawings, procedure manuals and reports.  Ability to read, write, and maintain routine correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively to all levels of employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions, tolerances, proportions or percentages.
  • Ability to solve problems in a variety of situations.  Ability to follow instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or drawing format.
  • Employee must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, push, pull, climb, and reach. 
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently throughout a shift.
  • Must have good responses and be alert at all times.

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Good eye/hand coordination.
  • Agility to access equipment.
  • Comply with all IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Knowledge of PLC systems and nomenclature.
  • Part drawing interpretation skills.
  • Welding experience.
  • Ability to compute dimensions and tolerances.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed, ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Solid work history and willingness to successfully function in a team environment.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as necessary.

Qualifications

 

  • Diploma of Machine Tool Technology (highly recommended but not required)
  • Drafting technology (with AutoCAD experience) – (highly recommended but not required)
  • Mechanical and Electrical reasoning skills.
  • PLC troubleshooting.
  • Project Management skills/experience.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.
  • The working environment is hot.  Employee will be working near molten aluminum and very hot surfaces.
  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment must be worn in the proper manner at all times.
  • The noise level is usually moderate to loud and hearing protection is required.
  • Eye protection is required.
  • Safety toed shoes are required.
