About the Organization  

Appalachia Service Project, Inc. (ASP) is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that that inspires hope and service through volunteer home repair and replacement in Central Appalachia.  ASP is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Using the skills and efforts of thousands of volunteers, ASP provides home repair and replacement to low-income households in Central Appalachia.

About the Position  

The Accounts Payable Specialist is part of the Accounting Department and reports to the Director of Accounting. They ensure correct and accurate processing of accounts payable and any entry into the accounting system. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position based in our Johnson City, TN, office. Irregular hours may be during peak times and will be scheduled in advance. 

 

Job Responsibilities  

  • Enter, process, and pay invoices in accounting system. 
  • Maintain vendor accounts and request W-9s. 
  • Work all statements and balance each month, including credit and gas card statements. 
  • Keep the payment calendar updated and pay utilities and rent for all facilities. 
  • Manage and pay monthly payments to insurance companies. 
  • Maintain spreadsheets for tracking debit and credit cards. 
  • Prepare, file, and pay state withholding tax monthly, quarterly, and yearly, as required by each state. 
  • Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly, and yearly state sales tax as needed. 
  • Keep tax exemption certificates updated. 
  • Assist
    with
    maintaining checking account balances. 
  • Complete end of year A/P accruals and pre-payments. 
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications  

Required:  

  • Desire
    to
    serve
    others
    by
    working
    with
    a
    Christian
    organization
    and ability
    to interact cooperatively and in a spirit of teamwork with all employees of the Appalachia Service Project. 
  • Associate degree or higher in a related field. 
  • Three years of Accounts Payable experience. 
  • Proficient with Office 365, especially Excel. 

Desired:  

  • Experience with Microsoft Business Central 

Other Requirements:  

  • Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to ASP’s insurer.
